Tough time for MMC team, vehicle damaged in road accident

ITANAGAR, Nov 27: The team of the Multimedia Campaign on HIV/AIDS had a narrow escape when one of its vehicles met with an accident, just 6 KMs before reaching Bomdila on Nov 26.

The MMC vehicle was hit by an army truck and front portion of the vehicle was completely damaged, sources said.  Fortunately no one travelling in the vehicle received any injury. Later in the evening the damaged vehicle was towed to a garage in Bomdila.

The campaign which was kicked off from Daporijo, Upper Subansiri by Health and Family Welfare Minister Tanga Byaling on Nov 10  already  covered seven districts of the state.

The MMC team had to face tough time arranging transportation in a small place like Bomdila due to untoward incident.

 

DLMC reviews implementation of schemes

ANINI, Nov 27: Dibang Valley District Level Monitoring Committee (DLMC) has reviewed the  implementation of schemes under ACA, SPA, NEC, NLCPR, RIDF, BADP, PM’s package in a meeting at DC’s office chamber at  Anini on Nov 26.  All members of the committee, HoDs, officers and Panchayat  members took part in the meeting.

Addressing the meeting, DC Abu Tayeng called for timely completion of every scheme with quality of work and adhering strictly to technical implications.

Third party monitoring team will be visiting the district shortly to assess work progress and actual implementation of various schemes in ground level, the DC disclosed.

Further, the DC urged all the Panchayat leaders, GBs and senior persons to cooperate with implementing agencies to ensure quality work and faster development of the district. He suggested to be prudent and careful in choosing and proposing the schemes for the financial year 2010-11. While selecting the schemes, a thorough analysis should be done to ascertain its feasibility in the area, he added.  Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner paid a whirlwind visit to   many project sites to gather first hand information on the progress of the work and to cross-check material used. NRHM team assess implementation of health schemes in East Kameng

ITANAGAR, Nov 27: State Monitoring and Evaluation Team (SMET) under National Rural Health Mission have reviewed the implementation of health programmes in East Kameng district during its three-day extensive tour programme  to the district from Nov 22.

The team members headed by Ongtang Thamphang, Deputy Director (IEC) included Arup Paul, State Finance Manager of State Programme Management Unit (SPMU) under State Health Society and R. B. Dubey, Consultant-Community Mobilization for Arunachal (NRHM) from RRC, NEs, MoH and FW, Govt of India.

The team reviewed the performance and implementation of the schemes as per District Health Action Plan (DHAP) and Govt. of India approval for the year 2010-11. They have visited Pakoti, Primary Health Centre, Sub-Centres and other peripheral areas and interacted with different health personnel.

The team also interacted with Dr. T. Gongo, DMO and Dr. Lapung, DRCHO and discussed measures to accelerate the pace of implementation of NRHM programme in the districts.

During its meeting with DC T Bam, who is also the chairman of District Health Society, the Monitoring team appraised him about NRHM programme in the district.  The team members also stressed the need of conducting timely meeting of District Health Mission which is mandatory under NRHM programme, according to an official release.

 

Seminar on multi-modality approach on cancer

PASIGHAT, Nov 27: The DDHS Dr. Kabang Lego organized  a seminar on Cancer update program for doctors on multi-modality approach to cancer on Nov 25 last at the General Hospital, Pasighat in collaboration with the Dr. B. Borooah Cancer Institute (BBCI), Guwahati, Assam. The seminar was sponsored by the DoNER.

Addressing the participating doctors, Lego informed that the seminar was basically a Cancer update program for the learned doctors and briefing on the development of science and technology he said that the medical science had progressed to tremendous heights and thus the cure of cancer and other diseases become easier and possible.

Amongst other, DMO Dr. T. Taloh and Medical Supdt. Dr. O. Moyong were also attended the seminar. DIPRO

 

Police arrests 3 murderers of late Mannow, 2 accused absconding

ITANAGAR, Nov 27: At last Lohit police has unearthed the mystery behind the murder of late Wisatha Mannow of Old Mohong with the arrest of three main accused.

The police had recovered the decomposed body of Late Mannow from Nao-Dihing river in Lekang circle of Lohit district on Nov 11.

Late Mannow was missing since Oct 23 and suspected to be kidnapped by some miscreants. Accordingly Mahadevpur P S  registered a Case No.16/ 10 U/S 363/302/201 IPC and launched investigation.

The Police team consisting Inspector T. Zirdo, SI Lod Tari and ASI Ajay Kumar identified all accused involved in the murder of the deceased.

Out of five accused, main accused, namely, Shivaji Urang, Sanjay Urang and Bipen Majhi have been arrested and now under police custody, informed police sources.

The other two accused are absconding. However efforts are on to nab the culprits, sources said.

Interrogation revealed that Shivaji Urang and his brother Sanjay Urang had a altercation with the deceased over question of payment of hire-charge of vehicle of one Papu Dey, a friend of the deceased amounting to Rs.2500. Since the payment of the hire-charge was not done in time by the accused Sanjay Urang, deceased Chow Wisatha Mannow had taken away the mobile set of Sanjay Urang and told that the mobile will be returned back only after clearance of dues, police sources informed.

However during altercation Chow Nikion Manwai took the mobile set from Wisatha Mannow and threw it on the ground and damaged the mobile set. After two days of the incident Sanjay Urang paid the hire charge amount to Papu Dey, truck owner and demanded a new mobile set. This incident is stated to have happened in the month of February last. It is also stated that the deceased and his friend refused to replace new mobile set and this has greatly enraged the Urang family. Police sources said that personal enmity was the main cause of the crime.

Taking advantage of the tension prevailing due to agitation over PRC issue on October 23 the accused Shivaji Urang, Sanjay Urang and Bipen Majhi took Chow Wisatha Mannow from the house of Binod Urang who was taking liquor and beaten him to death near Namghar at Manpengliang village. There after the dead body was carried to the bank of Nao Dihing river with the help of other accomplice and threw it to the river, police further informed.

 

Step taken to deliver goods

ITANAGAR, Nov 27:  Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu has taken special care to deliver goods as far as possible to people of Anini, said an official release.

Reacting to the AAPSU statement citing numerous problems being faced by the Anini people, the release further clarified that despite difficult Helicopter service due to inclement weather, essential commodities like grains, life savings drugs were delivered in Anini.

Regarding communication problems caused by the heavy rain, it was  clarified that MP Ninong Ering had apprised the  Union Road and Transport Minister Kamal Nath about the situation and also met BRO DG thrice. All possible efforts are being made by the BRO for maintenance of road, which is the lifeline of Anini.

 

Sanjoy calls for all out efforts to promote sports sector in state

ITANAGAR, Nov 27: Arunachal Olympic Association (AOA), after consultation with the State Government, will approach the Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports M S Gill for  special financial package for development of Sports sector in Arunachal Pradesh. It was decided in a meeting of all heads of state level sports associations held here this afternoon.

The meeting gave top priority for expansion, renovation and modernization of the congested Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Naharlagun for which the AOA would approach the State Government for the necessary action.

Speaking in the meeting, newly appointed president of Arunachal Pradesh Football Association and Member of Parliament Takam Sanjoy suggested the Arunachal Olympic Association (AOA) for holding a joint meeting with the State Government involving the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, Planning Secretary, district sports officers and other high ranking officers to discuss various sports related issues, including immediate formulation of the long-pending sports policy, fund allotment, infrastructure development, creation of posts in Sports and Youth Affairs department, proper implementation of the 5 per cent job reservation for meritorious sports persons in various state govt. departments etc.

Sanjoy, however, suggested that the demand for the construction of the multi-purpose indoor stadium may be put into rest for time being as it involves huge money.

He also stressed the need for reorganization/re-constitution of various district level sports bodies and associations to make them more efficient.

Regretting over lack of coaches in almost all sports disciplines, excepting football, badminton and karate, the MP suggested AOA for appointment of coaches on contract basis. He advised heads of various sports associations to place their demands and requirements before AOA well in advance so that it could arrange/manage for them their requirements.

Sanjoy, who vowed to work for development of games and sports in Arunachal Pradesh and was determined to put all things related to sports in place, called upon heads of various sports associations, sports lovers and authority to join hand together and make concerted efforts for beginning a new era in state’s sports, which over the years, was in stagnant due to negligence and lack of enthusiasm by the authority.

AOA president Padi Richo gave more emphasis on corpus fund and pointed out few sources from where it could raise fund.

According to AOA treasurer Likha Tara, the apex sports body in the state was running with zero bank balance.

Richo said that the AOA was facing  tough time in the last couple of years due to acute shortage of funds which impacted on overall development of sports sector.

AOA general secretary G Doke described the various problems being faced by the association in carrying out various activities due to acute shortage of fund. He said that despite fund constraint, players have been participating in various competitions and bringing laurels to the state.

Arunachal Karate Association president Likha Tara expressed his strong resentment over non-implementation of 5% job reservation for sportspersons in various Govt departments and appealed to the MP to take up the matter and   direct the departments concerned to implement the same in letter and spirit.

Meanwhile, citing example of the selection procedure of Army in recruiting sportspersons, Arunachal Weightlifting Association general Secretary Daniel Teli informed that state’s Youth Commonwealth Games silver medalist Yukar Sibi was appointed as Havildar in Army without taking any interview.

Teli further informed that when asked as to why Sibi was not taken interview, the recruiting Army officials quipped: "Sibi is a national hero and taking interview of such a hero will bring disrepute to Sibi himself and the nation as a whole." Teli urged state Govt department to follow this example while recruiting sportspersons in their respective departments.

Arunachal Taekwondo Association president Kipa Kaha suggested AOA for constituting a fund-raising sub committee. He urged all to be practical in their works to materialize things.

AWA president Techi Abraham, Wushu Association president Toko Teki also spoke among others.

 

Students urged to maintain discipline

ITANAGAR, Nov 27: Parliamentary Secretary, Food and Civil Supply Lokam Tassar advised the students to be disciplined and listen to teachers.

Addressing the students community in the inaugural function of the 28th School Week celebration of Govt Hr. Sec. School, Itanagar today as chief guest, Tassar advised the students not to take  the path of agitation and bandh calls, especially for any problem rather come to the negotiation table with the Government for amicable solution. He dealt in length about the importance of school managing committee, the need to improve the water supply and sanitation facilities within the school compound. He impressed upon the students about the focal consequence of drug abuse and increasing number of HIV positive cases among the school-going children.

Responding to the 1-point memorandum for construction of school auditorium, the MLA promised to take up the matter in the next financial year. Guest of honour cum AAPSU president Takam Tatung urged the Govt to improve the road condition, water supply and proposed for mini stadium in the school and improvement of the school building. He also demanded establishment of juvenile home and jail for women in the state.

Tatung announced cash award of Rs. 5000 and Rs. 3000 to the CBSE toppers of class XII and X of the schools from next academic session.

In the four-day celebration, the students of the schools have been divided into four houses, namely Gandhi House, Nehru House, Netaji House and Bhagat Singh House. Various games and sports, literary and cultural competitions would be organized during the four-day programme.

 

Workshop on SQC and ORIS conducted

ITANAGAR, Nov 27: The four-day national workshop on Statistical Quality Control (SQC) and Operation Research in Industry and Service sector using SPSS software came to an end at Dera Natung Govt College  yesterday. Altogether 35 academicians and research scholars in multi-discipline from different parts of Arunachal, Assam, Bhutan and North Bengal gained knowledge from the workshop conducted by resource persons  Dr Prasun Das, Abhijeet Gupta and Sanjit Ray from Indian Statistical Institute Bangalore and Kolkata.

The workshop highlighted on the Quality control and its measures, SQC tools for problem solving, control vs improvement with a focus on principles of statistical thinking where disciplined, data-based, action oriented statistical methods could be adopted in order to improve customer satisfaction. The participants were also given hands on experience on the SPSS software and excel date handling.  

DNGC Principal T Tamuk and Associate Prof  Dr P C Dutta (Statistics) attended the valedictory  function as chief guest and guest of honour.

Earlier, on Nov 23, the workshop was inaugurated by Prof Amitabh Mitra, department of economics, RGU and Dr V N Sharma, SLO, DHTE, as chief guest and guest of honour. The DNGC organized the workshop in collaboration with the  Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata.

 

ACWA conference ends

ITANAGAR, Nov 27: The 4th Apatani Catholic Women Association (ACWA) conference was organized on the theme “Towards an empowerment of Apatani Catholic women” at St. Mary’s Church Itanagar from Nov 25 to 27. Delegates from Ziro, Naharlagun, Itanagar and other districts of the state took part in the conference. The 3-day conference also discussed overall development of Apatani Catholic Women.

Itanagar Bishop Rev John Thomas in his inaugural address of the conference on Nov 25 said  “Women are soul mates of men and giver of love and life to the family and to the society”. He also stressed the point that families are the domestic church in which father and mother are spiritual guides as well as role model for the children. “God does not want dissolution of marriage as it is a sacrament” he said. “Love and affection should always be within the family”.

Bishop also highly appreciated Apatani Catholic women for organizing such an important event.

Guest of Honour Father A.D. Jose, SDB Parish Priest Itanagar also spoke towards unity amongst the ACWA and highlighted on empowerment of women.

Volleyball tourney cum cultural meet begins

ITANAGAR, Nov 27: The 3rd Phassang Tafar Memorial Volleyball Tournament cum cultural competition 2010 began at Banderdewa Nyokum Ground today.

Banderdewa DFO Taso Sira and Tako Tariam (former  Mandal president, Karsingsa VDC chairman) participated the inaugural function of the week-long programme as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.

The week-long event is being organized by Banderdewa Karsingsa Youth Welfare Association (BKYWA). Altogether 10 volleyball teams and eight cultural teams are participating in the mega programme. Large number of people participated in the inaugural function.

ITANAGAR, Nov 27:  The XII Annual School Week of Government Secondary School, RGU Campus started today.

Speaking on the occasion as Chief Guest, Papum Pare District DDSE TT Tara appreciating the school headmaster, staff and School Managing Committee urged them to continue their dedication for over all development of the school.

He further briefing about the importance of education advised the school children to be discipline and avoid any kind of bad habits including chewing tobacco and it’s by products.

He also suggested the parents and guardian not to provide any mobile phone set to the children while they are in school.

Guest of Honour Anchal Chairperson Doimukh Nabam Vijay appreciated the school authority and management and also advised the student.

School Management Committee, Chairman Dr Rachob Taba and Secretary Ningee Taniang briefed the history and present problems of the institution.

During the celebration, participants from Sadhna, Pragati, Ekta and Shanti houses will compete in various cultural literary and games and sports events.

 

Govt.  lauded

ITANAGAR, Nov 27: Ramle Banggo Welfare Society appreciated state government for granting Rs 10 lakhs as an emergency relief to the Nari fire victims and also appreciated Nationalist Congress Party state unit Vice President Karto Kaye for extending humanitarian help to the fire victims of Nari market.

The society further appreciated Home Minister Tako Dabi for implementation of various developmental projects and schemes in 36th Nari-Koyu constituency and properly handling the interstate affairs, militancy and law and order situation in the state.

 

Gang of looters busted, 3 arrested

PASIGHAT, Nov 27: Pasighat police have busted a gang of snatchers/looters on Nov 23 last.

Acting on a tip off that a gang of looters has been active in nearby areas of  DEM HS School area for many days, a team of Pasighat police station, headed by the OC T.K. Saikia raided the area and arrested three boys and recovered few snatched items and looted money.

The miscreants have been identified as Dulem Taki, Geto Pakam and Nabit Lomtung, informed SP East Siang Aloke Kumar .

He further informed that Lomtung and Pakam were not new to police, as per records they had  committed crimes earlier too.DIPRO.

 

APCC team

ITANAGAR, Nov 27: Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has formally notified its newly constituted APCC team with their portfolios, which has been approved by the AICC.  The APCC headed by Nabam Tuki as its president included six vice presidents, three spokespersons,  11 general secretaries, 14 secretaries and one treasurer.

 

‘Pasighat Live’ launched

Itanagar:  Pasighat Live, a Multilanguage Television channel was launched on Nov 24 last with Ipak Diyum and Ipy Jamoh as it Chairman and Managing Director.

The Deputy Commissioner Onit Panyang who inaugurated the first local TV channel congratulated for the new initiative and exhorted the media fraternity to be fair in reporting. He further emphasized on the need to provide wider coverage on district issues.

The channel would broadcast various entertaining and developmental programs besides Adi, Galo, Bengali, Assamese, Nepali, Malayalam news apart from Hindi and English news.

Itanagar: The Tagin community residing in East Siang district will celebrate the Si-Donyi festival on January 6th at the Solung ground, Pasighat.

Education Minister Bosiram Siram and Deputy Commissioner Onit Panyang would grace the occasion as Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively.

Kharsang coal mine supervisor kidnapped

Police & army on high alert

ITANAGAR, Nov 27: In yet another incident highlighting the deteriorating law and order situation of Arunachal, Sanjay Kumar a supervisor of APMDPCL coal mine, Kharsang was kidnapped on 24th November at around 7 pm.  According to the report around four unknown miscreants of whom two were armed with small firearms kidnapped Sanjay Kumar when he was traveling towards mine site in a Scorpio vehicle.

The four miscreants reportedly stopped the vehicle, asked the driver to move out and then one of the kidnappers started driving the vehicle towards Namchik. But vehicle broke down at Balithan Tinali and the kidnappers took Sanjay towards jungle on foot leaving the driver alone. However it has been reported that company authorities informed police about the incident next morning only at around 10 am.

A case No 31/10, U/S 447/365/121/34 IPC R/W 25/13 (A) Arms Act has been registered at Kharsang Police Station and police swung into action.

Meanwhile, state Home Minister Tako Dabi  held discussion on the kidnapping incident in a high level meeting with DGP, IGP, DIGPs today. Subsequently, Assam Police, Army and paramilitary forces in various location in Assam have been alerted, sources informed.

Sources further said that SP Changlang, Maio SDPO along with forces are camping at Kharsang coal mine to search the possible hide out of kidnappers and  Assam Rifles, CRPF and IRBn jawans are also conducting search operation at suspected places.

Talking to this daily, Kharsang PS, officer in chare C. Lungri, said, “State police, IRBn, Assam Rifle and army are closely co-coordinating to track the kidnappers.  We are hopeful of solving this case sooner.”  

Basically from Chapra district of Bihar, Sanjay Kumar’s kidnapping has caused much embarrassment to government of Arunachal, particularly home ministry. Before this an IFS officer was kidnapped from Bhalukpong allegedly by Assam based underground organization. However, the IFS officer was released later.
